Dr Zahid Badroodien

A graduate of Stellenbosch University, Dr Zahid Badroodien, holds a medical degree (MBChB), a Masters in Public Health from the University of Edinburgh as well as a certificate in ‘Challenges in Global Health’ from Utrecht University.
In service to the City of Cape Town, in his first term, Dr Badroodien, served as the Deputy Chairperson of the Communities Development Portfolio Committee (2016-2018) going on to become a Member of the Mayoral Committee for Community Services and Health (2018-2021). Under his political leadership, the City ensured its readiness to respond to the health impact of the global pandemic.
Now, serving his second term, Councillor Badroodien, serves as the political principal of the Water and Sanitation Directorate. Here, he will focus on restoring dignity in communities by reducing sewer overflows especially in vulnerable areas, increasing infrastructure investment and maintenance, ensuring continued excellence of the quality of our water by prioritising the national Blue Drop and Green Drop programmes.
Dr Badroodien was appointed Publicity Ambassador for the International Peace Youth Group and Youth Ambassador for the International Kindness Campaign by the UNESCO Mahatma Gandhi Institute of Education for Peace and Sustainable Development.
